What is Human API?
Human API is a third-party platform that lets patients share their health data with different health applications and systems. Human API works with different organizations likes hospitals, pharmacies, and labs to ensure that data from electronic medical records (EMRs) can be authenticated and securely shared with other companies. Sema4 works closely with Human API to make sure your health data is shared safely and accurately.

What is Human API's role in connecting health information in my Sema4 patient portal account?
Our partnership with Human API allows us to pull your EMR data from thousands of other healthcare institutions. Once you log into your health institution, lab, or pharmacy through Human API in your Sema4 patient portal account, we immediately start fetching your health information to be displayed in all data-related features for which you are eligible.
Do I need to create a separate Human API account in order to see my records?
You do not need to sign up for a separate Human API account to see your health data in patient portal features like Pregnancy Journey and My Health.
After you finish connecting your health data to your Sema4 account, you will see a prompt asking you to sign up for a Human API account. This prompt appears because Sema4 and Human API have partnered to display your health data in the Sema4 patient portal.
Creating a Human API account will let you manage your health data directly on the Human API platform, and share your health data with other partners in addition to Sema4.
If you do choose to create a separate Human API account, please note that opting out of sharing health information in the Sema4 patient portal will not remove your health information from Human API. You will have to opt out of Human API separately through their website.
What if I don’t see my provider listed as a data source through Human API?
Human API’s network covers 85% percent of hospitals in the United States, but it is possible that some smaller practices do not have their EMRs integrated with Human API.
Your data may become available in the future as more institutions and practices integrate with Human API.
