To help our clinical experts interpret your child’s results, we strongly recommend that both biological parents also provide DNA samples. Analyzing the parents’ DNA can help confirm or rule out a positive result if a variant (or change) is detected in the child’s DNA. While a false positive is very unlikely, this simple step may help prevent unnecessary worry for you and your family.
Providing a sample is simple! Every DNA sample for Sema4 Natalis is collected at home through a gentle cheek swab. We recommend doing this at the same time you collect your child’s DNA sample.
If you order Natalis through your pediatrician, a parent can provide their sample at the healthcare provider’s office at the same time that the child does.
If you would like to provide a DNA sample, here are a few important things to know:
- When you order Sema4 Natalis, please indicate which biological parent(s) will provide a sample
- We will only analyze your sample if your child screens positive
- If your DNA sample is analyzed, Sema4 will include the results in a comprehensive report that will be shared with you and your child’s doctor. You will not receive a separate report for the analysis of your sample
