A comprehensive carrier screen, such as our Expanded Carrier Screen, is strongly recommended if you are pregnant or planning for pregnancy. The Expanded Carrier Screen includes 101 genes that are more commonly associated with genetic conditions in people of Jewish descent.
Carrier screening and appropriate genetic counseling can be used to dramatically reduce the incidence of genetic conditions in the Jewish population. In addition to our Expanded Carrier Screen, we also offer three Jewish panels:
- Comprehensive Jewish carrier screen: This panel of 101 genes includes 47 genes relevant to the Ashkenazim, 37 genes relevant to the Sephardi and Mizrahi communities, and 17 genes relevant to all people of Jewish descent
- Ashkenazi Jewish carrier screen: This panel tests for 64 genes relevant to the Ashkenazi Jewish population
- Sephardi-Mizrahi Jewish carrier screen: This panel tests for 54 genes relevant to the Sephardi and Mizrahi Jewish populations
